Workshop on Aeroelastic Certification:
Tools, Test, and Decision Making
October 28 - 29, 2008, Sedona, Arizona

  Objective

Welcome to the web page for the Workshop on Aeroelastic Certification: Tools, Test, and Decision Making. This meeting is the third in a series of workshops on nonlinear aeroelasticity and the aeroelastic certification of aircraft systems that exhibit nonlinear behaviors. The purpose of this meeting is to draw together representatives of the test, research, and user communities to discuss how analysis can be used to improve and/or accelerated decisions made in aeroelastic certification processes. We will focus on how modern analysis, numerical tools, previous experience, and flight test data can be effectively "fused" to better support aircraft certifiers. The workshop will be held at the Radisson Poco Diablo Resort, Sedona, AZ on October 28 - 29, 2008, and will be followed by the Aerospace Flutter and Dynamics Council (AFDC) at the same location on October 30 - 31, 2008.

The workshop will consist of presentations, that address key questions in aeroelastic certification, such as:

  • What level of analysis fidelity is needed/desired for specific configurations?
  • How is the appropriate level of fidelity determined?
  • How can analysis, ground test, and flight test be used together to best improve decision making and to determine maximum allowable flight envelope?
  • How can analyses, tests, and certifications be viewed stochastically for existing and future aircraft?
  • What future technologies could dramatically enhance certification processes?

Getting to Sedona

To get to Sedona, you can fly into Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport or Flagstaff's Pulliam Airport. From either airport attendees can then rent cars and then drive to Sedona. For a map from the Phoenix Airport to the hotel and conference center please click here. Also if you wish to take your time and see some site you can take the alternate way, and stop through some small towns. For example you can go through Jerome, which is an historic copper mining town, which is now full of art gallaries and has stunning views from its allivated postion along the hillside. Here is a map, starting from the Sky Harbor Airport and taking your through some small towns including Jerome and ending at the Poco Diablo Radisson for the Workshop.

For a map from the Flagstaff airport to the hotel and conference center please click here. If you are into a more scenic route coming down from Flagstaff, we suggest taking 89A into Sedona. This route has lots of twists and hills but should be very beautiful in late October especially if the trees are changing colors at that time. Please click here for the scenic route.

If you would like to take a shuttle from the Phoenix airport to Sedona, you can contact a shuttle service such as Sedona Phoenix Shuttle at www.sedona-phoenix-shuttle.com. All shuttles require reservations, be sure to call early.

Things to do in Sedona

Sedona has a variety of activities ranging from hiking, horseback riding, offroading, hot air ballooning, mountain biking, tours and excursions, spiritual experiences, helecopter tours, plus unique shopping, art gallaries, spas, fine dinning, and much more.
